feminine imaginaries 2016

This work explores the feminine and attempts to propose new imaginative possibilities beyond its limiting and pejorative status within culture. The installations incorporate colours and materials such as lace, soft fabrics and different shades of pink that evoke a stereotypical feminine. This work was created in two parts, iteration 1 uses a bathroom as hyper feminine space, while iteration 2 uses the common domestic object of a kitchen sink to further investigate the culturally inscribed spaces and contexts of the feminine. The work uses these spaces and objects as sites to propose new connections between the personal and political through the feminine.
